How To Make Beats

This article is going to break down why any beat maker would use software on their computers to make beats for the music industry. If you are learning how to make beats and what to use, keep your eyes glued because this is your golden nugget.

Back in the days when music production was a small amount of people, the best type of equipment to make beats on was hardware such as the mpc and the asr-10. Majority of the hit records being made back then were produced on those types of hardware. Software was not around at all at one point. As the technology started to change, so did the way producers made beats.

Now if you fast forward until the year 2011, software is by far the most used for beat making. Beat makers always say how much easier software is to use. The loading times are much faster, quality is almost better and the price is way less. If you’re a brand new beat maker and you are learning how to make beats, software is your best route.

The purpose of software is for those same reasons. Easy access, cheap prices, faster loading times all impact beat making software. Young up and coming producers don’t want to spend $1000’s on some heavy equipment that takes up so much space. We’re all on computers for hours every single day which is also a plus for making beats using software.

Production software is setup nearly exactly the same as old hardware. Things like the mpc have been re-created into virtual drum machines and keyboards have turned into digital keyboards.

Now for some quick tips on how to make beats, you will first need a good usb midi controller. Once you got it all setup into your pc, load up your beat making software and start hitting those drums! Start with a good 8 bar drum loop. Once the drums are bouncing, continue onto the melodies. Make sure that you use some catchy synthesizers, pianos, bass, strings and sound effects. All of these elements come together perfect. You can then sequence the instrumental into an entire song structure. Start with intro, chorus, verse and outro.

Make sure to keep practicing your beat making skills because overtime, you will be making some super hot beats that can be sold to artists in the music industry. Now it’s time for you to go and find the software to make beats!

Music Beat Maker Software - The Basics Make the Music

A music beat maker is going to have a few things going for it that separate it from a virtual drum-machine or traditional software beat maker. The most essential difference is that it is going to allow a song-writer to produce an entire song from beginning to end. This usually means that the samples will also have to be more expansive. More samples and sounds will be necessary as well as at least 16-tracks. Beyond this, there may be a virtual drum-pad and there should also be a virtual piano set.
The piano set would be used to add the bass-lines, guitar parts, vocal elements and synthesizer sounds; essentially everything that doesn't sound like a percussion instrument. The idea behind a music beat maker is that it will allow a song-writer to drop a nice beat and then have enough tracks and samples left over to add a hook. A hook is the part of the song that keeps the listener listening. Every great song has a great hook.
There are a few things every beat maker should have, so for the purposes of this article, these elements will be discussed now. For one thing, a beat maker should have a 16-track sequencer. Whether or not the tracks can be bounced onto one of the tracks is not as important as making sure there are 16-tracks available. 8-track sequencers simply do not give the song-writer enough options and may be okay if you are just looking for a quick and simple beat but lack the desired effect when you want to add a hook or produce an entire song from scratch.
You will also want each track to have its own volume control. This is pretty obvious, but make sure that you try out the samples and the volume control on each track before you purchase the music beat maker. You don't want to end up with a music beat maker that does not give the sneer, bass-drum etc. the exact tone you are looking for.
You will also want to have control over the beats-per-minute or BPM. This stands for how many beats are played each minute, so for a song that is set at 100 BPM, 100 beats are 'completed' per minute. This does not mean you should use every beat (silence is golden) but it is the standard for determining the tempo of the song. Just make sure you have control over it.
Last but not least you will want to have an easy export option in your music beat maker. At the very least you will want the beat maker to export to mp3 with the click of a button, and the more export file options available the better. Most software beat makers today will have this option, and that would include music beat makers as well.
To re-cap, the four ingredients you will want to have on your music beat maker at the bare minimum are:
- 16-track sequencer (not an 8-track sequencer)
- Individual volume control (for each of the 16 tracks)
- BPM Control (to control the tempo of the song)
- Easy Export Option (at least exportable to mp3 so you can burn the song or upload it etc.)
Just remember to try out as many music beat makers as possible by downloading 'free' versions on your computer. This way you will have a good idea about what you like and don't like and then you can choose accordingly. The price of beat makers has gone down so much in the last few years that you can probably spend well under $100 and be pretty happy with the purchase and the beats you make. Good luck and happy beat making.

Best Beat Makers Reviewed by Professionals

There are many different types of beat makers on the market in both hardware and software formats, the type of beat maker that is right for you will depend on a number of things.
Most all beat makers have their own platform for programming them, but a lot of them are a lot easier to use than you think.  Anyone can learn to make  beats in a matter of minutes, with the right beat maker. If you choose, you can get a beat maker in a matter of minutes and be making beats very quickly. Of course certain beat makers or beat machines work better depending on:
1) your style of music
2) what type of environment you will be using it in
3) what type of work flow you like creating beats in.
To make beats there is generally two main ways to do it with a beat program or drum machine beat maker. There is real time programming, and what is called Step Programming. Real time programming is when you just simply press record and hit the pads you want to sound. Every time you hit a pad the computer or whatever machine you may be using will record that hit and sound it off once the pattern loops back around. How long it takes to loop back around depends on the time signature, number of bars and tempo you have set. As the device loops back around you can continue to add as much as you like to what you have already done because the beat machine will remember every time and at what time you hit a pad.
Real time  programming is much easier to do than it sounds. Another way to program is called Step mode programming. It is a bit more harder to grasp and depending on the device you are programming your beat on,it can be a bit challenging. We have found that devices that offer the grid type of step programming seem to work the best and be the easiest to grasp and program on. Sadly, most beat makers do not offer this type of setup, but we have noticed that lately a lot of companies have started using this type of platform for programming. Roland has been using it for a long time, for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time!
Step Programming with a grid simply means you are not recording in real time, like I explained earlier, but it is done while the device is not even cycling, basically the beat machine is just sitting there while you insert what you want to play into a grid at certain points. Once you are finished inserting each instrument at the time point on the grid you choose, then you press play and you will hear what you have done. You can always go back and add to it, either with step mode or in real time, that's a good thing. But what you will be amazed with is how quickly and easy step mode becomes after using it for a little while, trust me, if you use it a bit, with in a week, you could just look at the grid, (if your device offers grid programming), and already know what the beat will sound like before ever hitting play. Trust me, this is not hard to learn.
The Mpc 2500 and 5000 offers grid mode recording and so does cubase based sequencers. Roland drum machines also offer this method, and there are a few more I am sure. Another term used for this type of recording is called step recording...which every program I have come across has, but it is implemented differently depending on the host program or type of beat making machine.
I receive a lot of questions about using free beat making software. I would not advise any one to use free beat making software unless, you are just playing around and are not serious about making music beats. Reason being, every free program I have come across is very limited in what it will or will not let you do as far as making beats. Most of them also have very limited samples and /or will not let you save your project once you have finished. The few that I have run across that are free and do let you save your products, simply lack good sound quality and just don't have that big boy appeal.
There are a ton of beat making drum machines and software beat making products that you could get for your computer. It's best to start with a program that works with your computer, if you have a computer and are low on cash. I personally prefer the hardware drum machines or beat makers by MPC, they in my opinion sound the best and come with more features that are geared toward making beats. They are pricey compared to the software programs you can get for your computer, but if you plan on doing this on a professional level, you will have spent enough money in the long run just getting your computer to sound like a MPC, before you realize it.
If you are just getting started, it is best to pick a program that is highly suggested by industry professionals, and start learning it. Although some programs start out more optimized for certain types of music, most of the well known software beat makers can be used for almost any style. Anyone who really wants to make beats can jump in and start making instrumentals in a matter of minutes.
Bottom line is anyone can do this if you really want to. Its just a matter of jumping in and getting started. So get to it!
I hope you find this information helpful cause you could be up and making beats in a matter of minutes just by choosing the right beat maker  Making music can be fun, and it all starts with what motivates you.
